Improvement

Monday has come once more for some it may be depressing to have to go back to work after a nice weekend, for others it may not matter much. For me it poses a challenge that challenge is to write better than I did last week. Improvement is something we should work on every day of our lives, what do you want to do better this week?

I remember when I was in my teens, my father would tell me “you must have goals or you will never accomplish anything”. I never really took the time to understand that, but I do now. Goals are what drive us and keep us going every day.

Let me define goal. A goal is a specific, measurable, achievable, and realistic and time targeted thing that you would like to do. On a personal level these help one to work toward their objective and goals should be a major part of anyone’s personal development.

Without goals how would you measure your success? When you set a goal you are defining in a clear manner what you want to achieve and when you want to achieve it. A goal is a personal commitment to one’s self.

In order to assure that you goals will be met you should keep them to a handful. What I mean by that is in order to be productive you should not set more goals than you can focus on. Set goals for each day, each week, each month and each year and at the end of each time period look over your goals once again and decide if they have been accomplished or not. Then decide what you would like to do about it.

Use the SMART method:

  • Specific, make sure that your goals are specific, when goals are not clear you do not know if you have met them.
  • Actionable, your goals should start with action. Example to run, to finish, to do rather than the verb to be.
  • Realistic – yes you should push yourself that is what goals are about, but they should not be unattainable.
  • Time – every goal needs to have a time limit or a date that the goal needs to be set by. Without a date the goal becomes just a dream.

Write your goal down this is to solidify your intention and will help you to put things in motion. Once you have done this be sure to review them often and ask yourself this question~ what is the next thing I need to do in order to meet this goal? Take the step to let other know what your goals are, if you tell someone you are more likely to meet your goal.

Goal setting is the prerequisite for success and happiness in your life; it is proven that people who consistently work toward a meaningful goal are more satisfied with their lives.

Your goals should be the roadmap of your life, without a roadmap how will you reach your destination? The answer is ~ you will not.

“If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint,” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” ~Vincent Van Gogh
