Commitment and Passion

How to do define commitment? There are many different ideas of commitment, personal, legal and job commitments are just a few. But what is the definition of commitment? It seems that many people today do not understand what commitment really is, or else they choose not to. I am not sure which it is and I don’t know which one is worse.

Commitment as defined by Merriam-Webster Online

  1. The state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.
  2. An engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action.
  3. A promise to do or give something-a promise to be loyal to someone or something.
  4. An attitude of someone who works very hard to do or support something

Interesting isn’t it? How many people do you know that are committed to something? Is their commitment one of passion? What I mean by that is simply this are they on fire for what they are committed to? Do they have a passion for it, or are they committed because they feel it is their duty?  A commitment should be backed up by passion, are you writing passionately? Without passion in your life, everything is dead.

I feel that so many people take commitment lightly. This is not a concept to be taken lightly. Making a commitment should not be something that is done without great thought and passion. Yes, I keep going back to passion, it seems that so many things in life revolve around passion.
