Seasons of the year are much like the seasons of our lives. Now we are looking at autumn or fall as we call it here in the United States. Why does this time of year bring so much melancholy to so many people?

The start of fall is associated with the start of school. The television is always promoting back to school things for the fall. All of the new television shows start their new season in the fall; because they know that night comes earlier , and more people will be at home ready to watch television.

Fall brings melancholy to me for many reasons the end of summer, the looming winter, plants are dying off, and I tend to look back over my life. It is a time of reflection for me a time for me to understand just where I am in my life.

However, one must keep in mind the abundance of fall. The harvest for many people is a time for celebration, great apple pie and wonderful ripe fruits and vegetables. Pumpkins are one of my favorites, along with the squash of the season. Apple cider and fall festivals abound during this time, it seems that everyone wants to get outside and enjoy the last of the warm days before the cold weather sets in.

Halloween is associated with the fall of the year, and millions in America love to celebrate Halloween with decorations, haunted houses, trick or treat and scary movies.

The fall foliage is beautiful; the colors seem to burst from the landscape. Many people like to travel to New England in the fall and enjoy the changing of the leaves. Many parts of the world experience the color change in the leaves, with no shortage of people who love to enjoy the colors.

I have a love/hate relationship with the fall of the year. I love the cooler weather, beautiful leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving and all of the wonderful ripe foods. On the other hand, I hate the idea that summer is over, another year is gone the days are getting shorter , and winter is about to set in. As with anything in life we must learn to take the good with the bad. So, I thank God for all the wonderful things in my life , and I try to keep a positive attitude. Soon, winter will give way to spring , and it will begin again.
